The Toyota-Uber deal tests whether financial access, rather than regulation, can be the faster route to a cleaner European taxi fleetToyota Motor Europe and Uber have announced a partnership to expand access to hybrid and battery-electric vehicles for Uber drivers and fleet partners across Europe, launching across 10 countries in July 2026. The arrangement offers preferential conditions on new and used Toyota and Lexus vehicles, alongside flexible financing, leasing and usage-based insurance. Toyota Motor Europe, Toyota Financial Services, Toyota Insurance Services and KINTO Europe each contribute to a single mobility proposition covering vehicles, financing, leasing and insurance. Toyota’s multi-pathway approach gives drivers a choice between hybrid, battery-electric and approved used vehicles, adapted to local market and infrastructure conditions. The partnership reflects challenges facing professional drivers across European cities, where changing regulatory requirements and rising operating costs are increasing pressure to transition to lower-emission vehicles. Toyota frames the arrangement as part of a broader commitment to making electrified mobility accessible to all drivers, including those for whom upfront costs are a barrier. Leonardo Carluccio, Vice-President of Sales at Toyota Motor Europe, said the partnership improves vehicle access and financing for professional drivers, supporting a shift towards lower-emission fleets. Raoul Philipse, Senior Director of Central Operations at Uber, said the deal aims to reduce vehicle ownership and financing barriers to drive electrification for drivers. Source:Toyota
