WBSC Europe Introduces Parallel Playing System for 2026 Season

WBSC Europe has introduced the Parallel Playing system as a pilot initiative for the 2026 season, offering athletes new opportunities to compete, develop and gain international experience across Europe. The system allows an athlete to participate for two clubs affiliated with different National Federations, under clearly defined conditions and with the approval of all involved parties. Parallel Playing is designed to strengthen both individual and structural development of the sport. By enabling athletes to be active in two different environments, the system supports player development, increases the number of competitive opportunities, and encourages closer cooperation between National Federations and clubs across Europe. Under this system, the athlete remains officially registered with a Primary Club, while also being authorised to compete for a Secondary Club. In case of scheduling conflicts, the Primary Club has priority, unless otherwise approved by WBSC Europe. How Does It Work?To participate in Parallel Playing, a formal process must be completed involving:the athletethe Primary Clubthe Secondary Clubboth National FederationsAthletes are required to:actively train with both clubsactively compete for both clubsThe minimum duration of a Parallel Playing registration is30 days, and the system is valid throughout the2026 season.
