The business agent in WhatsApp is powered by Meta AIWhatsApp is no longer just where you chat with friends and family. It’s steadily turning into a proper business tool too, and the latest update pushes that even further. Alongside this AI tool, the company also introduced a separate Meta Business Agent Platform aimed at larger enterprises, plus new discovery features that let you search for businesses directly within WhatsApp itself. The Penrose Stairs Explain Why He Can'tAt its core, Meta Business Agent is designed to help businesses offer round-the-clock customer support using AI, without needing a human available at all hours. The assistant can handle a fairly wide range of tasks on its own. It can answer customer questions, recommend products straight from a merchant’s catalogue, help book appointments, qualify potential leads, and even assist during sales conversations. It doesn’t stop at just replying to messages either. The tool also provides conversation summaries, useful customer insights, and updates on any interactions a business might have missed. So if a business owner steps away for a few hours, they can quickly catch up on what happened without scrolling through every single chat. Importantly, businesses aren’t locked into a fully automated experience either. According to Meta, the AI agent can be configured to hand off a conversation to an actual human representative whenever needed, which should help avoid the frustration of getting stuck talking to a bot for something more complex. A Bigger Platform For Large EnterprisesWhile Meta Business Agent is aimed at everyday merchants, the newly announced Meta Business Agent Platform is built with much larger businesses in mind. This version lets enterprises build, customise, and deploy their own AI-powered business agents at scale, rather than relying on a fairly standard, one-size-fits-all assistant. Meta said this platform integrates directly with tools businesses may already be using, including Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee, while working alongside the existing WhatsApp Business Platform. This is a meaningful detail, since it means larger companies don’t necessarily need to rebuild their entire customer support setup from scratch just to adopt this. To show this isn’t just a theoretical tool, Meta pointed to a few companies already using it in India. Swiggy, Madhulika Enterprises, and Kaizen Adventours were all named as businesses currently leveraging the platform for things like customer support, managing leads, and handling day-to-day operational workflows. Finding Businesses Just Got EasierAlongside these AI-focused announcements, WhatsApp also revealed a set of new discovery features aimed at everyday users, not just businesses. Going forward, you’ll be able to search for businesses by name directly within WhatsApp itself, rather than needing to already have their number saved or find them through another app. There’s a social element to this too. Users will also be able to share business profiles with friends and family directly on WhatsApp, making it easier to pass along a recommendation without leaving the chat. According to Meta, the whole point of this discovery push is to make finding merchants on WhatsApp feel a lot more natural, so users don’t have to jump out of the app just to look up a business they’ve heard about. What This Means For YouIf you’re someone who already messages local businesses on WhatsApp for orders, appointments, or general queries, expect responses to feel a lot faster and more consistent going forward, especially outside regular business hours. And if you’re trying to find a new business to order from or book with, the new search and sharing features should make that noticeably easier too, all without having to leave your chat window. For businesses, especially smaller ones that can’t afford a full time support team, this update is a genuinely useful way to stay responsive to customers around the clock, while still keeping a human in the loop whenever a conversation actually needs one.
