DEWA Installs 46 EV Charging Stations at Al Shera'a to Support Sustainable Mobility - Business Today Middle East

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)has installed 46 electric vehicle (EV) charging points at the parking facilities of Al Shera’a, its new headquarters, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and the expansion of green mobility infrastructure. The charging facilities, deployed under DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative, include 40 alternating current (AC) charging points for employees and six direct current (DC) fast-charging points for visitors. Al Shera’a, recognised as the world’s tallest, largest, and smartest net-positive government building, reflects DEWA’s vision of advancing innovation, sustainability, and energy efficiency. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said the project aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who has positioned sustainability as an integral part of everyday life in Dubai. He noted that Al Shera’a has been designed to meet the highest international sustainability standards, generating more clean energy than it consumes while providing smart, human-centric infrastructure that encourages the adoption of environmentally friendly transportation through integrated EV charging facilities. Al Tayer added that the initiative supports the UAE Net Zero Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030 by promoting wider EV adoption, reducing transport-related carbon emissions, improving air quality, and enhancing quality of life. He said these efforts further strengthen Dubai’s position as a global leader in sustainable urban development. By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Dubai’s EV charging network had expanded to 2,223 charging points. The network comprises DEWA’s EV Green Charger stations alongside charging facilities operated by DEWA-licensed independent charge point operators in partnership with public and private sector organisations. DEWA has also developed a comprehensive regulatory framework for EV charging infrastructure, establishing licensing requirements and operational standards for independent charge point operators while addressing both current and future industry needs. The framework is designed to support the continued growth of Dubai’s EV ecosystem and reinforce the emirate’s leadership in sustainable mobility.
