DEWA Ranks First Across 13 Key Performance Indicators - Business Today Middle East

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)has secured the top position in 13 key operational performance indicators, in addition to leading several regional benchmarks, underscoring Dubai’s commitment to achieving excellence through measurable impact. Among its most notable achievements, DEWA recorded the world’s lowest customer minutes lost (CML) for electricity at just0. 82 minutes (49 seconds) per customer annually, along with thelowest electricity transmission and distribution losses globally at 2%. Water network losses were limited to4. 4%, among the best worldwide, while the reliability and availability of Dubai’s electricity network exceeded99. 99%. These results are driven by advanced smart technologies, including DEWA’sAutomatic Smart Grid Restoration System, which automatically isolates faults and restores electricity without human intervention, ensuring uninterrupted service around the clock. The achievements reflect theDubai-Itinitiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The initiative promotes a results-driven approach where ambition is measured by execution, speed and tangible outcomes. DEWA embodies this philosophy by transforming strategic vision into world-class infrastructure, innovative projects and globally recognised performance. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said the Dubai-It initiative reinforces Dubai’s culture of continuous progress, with every achievement serving as a foundation for future success. He added that DEWA combines strategic planning, operational excellence and strong partnerships to deliver measurable outcomes while anticipating Dubai’s future energy and water needs. Solar Innovation Centre, featuring futuristic architecture, serves as a museum, exhibition and convention centre dedicated to solar energy, renewable technologies and sustainability in the desert. A key example is theMohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park developed under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. Its installed capacity has reached3,860MWand is expected to exceed8,000MW by 2030, surpassing the original target of 5,000MW. The fourth phase has earned four Guinness World Records through its innovative combination of photovoltaic and concentrated solar power technologies, while the seventh phase will further expand clean energy generation and storage capabilities. DEWA’s IPP model has become a global benchmark for public-private partnerships, attracting international investment, improving project efficiency and contributing to lower renewable energy costs worldwide. Clean energy currently contributesmore than 21. 5%of Dubai’s energy mix and is projected to reach36% by 2030, supporting the emirate’s goal of achieving100% clean energy production capacity by 2050. DEWA is also advancing energy diversification through projects such as the250MW Hatta Hydroelectric Power Plant—the first of its kind in the GCC—with an energy storage capacity of1,500MWhand an operational lifespan of up to80 years. To further strengthen its infrastructure, DEWA is investingAED 7 billionin itsSmart Grid Strategythrough 2035. The strategy includes six key pillars and 19 enablers aimed at improving grid efficiency, reducing losses, enhancing load management and leveraging artificial intelligence to predict risks, accelerate response times and ensure uninterrupted services. Among its AI-driven initiatives isRammas, DEWA’s generative AI-powered virtual employee, which has handledmore than 13 million customer inquiriesacross DEWA’s communication channels since its launch in 2017 through mid-June 2026. Through its continued investments in renewable energy, digital transformation, water security and strategic partnerships, DEWA is reinforcing its position as a global utility leader while advancing Dubai’s vision for a sustainable and innovation-driven future.
