Donegal’s contribution to the Middle East success – from left: Conor Gibbons (St Eunan’s, joint team manager), Orán Doogan (Kilcar, player) and Michael Quinn (St Naul’s, goalkeeper) with the World GAA Games Men’s Open trophy. Three Donegal GAA men played key roles in a memorable week at the 2026 World GAA Games in Waterford, helping the Middle East claim the Men’s Open title as part of an outstanding clean sweep of four championship victories. The World GAA Games, which brought together Gaelic footballers, hurlers and camogie players from clubs across the globe, concluded on Friday with the Middle East teams enjoying a remarkable tournament. They captured four titles, including the Men’s Open Championship, where they claimed the Sean Harte Cup on a 3-9 to 0-5 scoreline against Yorkshire. Among those celebrating the success were Conor Gibbons of St Eunan’s, who served as joint team manager, alongside players Orán Doogan of Kilcar and Michael Quinn of St Naul’s. The Donegal trio made a significant contribution throughout the tournament, helping guide the Middle East side to an unbeaten campaign. The Ladies Football Open title also went back to the Middle East. Middle East completed a hat-trick when they won the Open Hurling final, and made it a four-timer when their camógs won the Open Camogie title with an impressive win over Britain. The victorious Middle East Men’s Open team celebrate after defeating Yorkshire to win the World GAA Games title in Waterford.
