They have been chosen from over 400 applicants from government and government-aided schools across Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta handed over the travel tickets to the selected students for the workshop, scheduled for October-November 2026. It will provide the participants with hands-on learning experiences in space science and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Top five selected through a rigorous multi-stage processThe US Space Science Workshop intends to support students with a keen interest in STEM subjects by offering international exposure and practical learning opportunities. Ambitious students from government and government-aided schools are selected through a structured selection process. Over 400 students had applied for this programme, of whom 130 were narrowed down based on their performances in the STEM assessment, which stressed scientific aptitude, analytical thinking, interest in STEM education, and the evaluation of their Statement of Purpose (SOP). Subsequently, the shortlisted students took part in a regional workshop, where they developed and displayed hands-on science projects. After a detailed evaluation, the top five projects were selected, and the students associated with them got an opportunity to attend the US workshop. The programme is being organised under the Saksham initiative, executed by the Delhi government in partnership with Honeywell Technologies. Its main objective is to strengthen STEM education among girls studying in government and government-aided schools. Currently, it covers 12 schools but is planned to reach approximately 12,000 students by 2029. While the majority of participating schools are in Delhi, the initiative is also being implemented in Pune, Bengaluru, and Gurugram to expand access to STEM learning opportunities. Selected students will attend a week-long programme at the US Space and Rocket Center, participating in practical sessions, space science activities, and interactive STEM workshops.
