JLR says market disruption from Middle East conflict linked to sales drop

Sales figures from the last quarter have been released this weekJaguar Land Rover has revealed its latest financial figures(Image: Jaguar Land Rover)11:33, 03 Jul 2026Jaguar Land Rover has blamed a drop in sales over the last quarter on the conflict in the Middle East. The Coventry-founded manufacturer has revealed sales figures for the last three months up until June 30. It's been a challenging two years for the company - a cyber attack last year had huge repercussions on finances. External politics in the shape of US tariffs have also made life difficult. This is combined with expected and accounted for downturns due to the winding down of classic Jag models ahead of the company's eventual move to electric vehicles. "JLR today reports its wholesale and retail sales for the first quarter of FY27, the three months ended 30 June 2026," a spokesman said on Thursday (2 July). "Volumes were affected by temporary supply constraints, including a fire at a major component supplier at the start of the quarter; market disruption linked to the conflict in the Middle East; and the planned wind down of outgoing Jaguar models ahead of the launch of Jaguar Type 01. "Wholesale volumes for the first quarter were 79,300 units (excluding the Chery Jaguar Land Rover China (‘CJLR’) JV), down 9. 2% year-on-year, and down 16. 8% compared to Q4 FY26. Compared to the prior year, wholesale volumes for the first quarter increased in the Middle East and North Africa (4. 5%) and were flat in North America but declined in the UK (-5. 9%), Europe (-12. 1%), Overseas (-20. 1%) and China (-26. 2%). ‌"The strong mix of Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Defender models continued in Q1 FY27, representing 80. 8% of total wholesale volumes, up from 77. 2% in Q1 FY26 and 77. 1% in the prior quarter. "Dr Charles Tennant is an Automotive Analyst based inWarwickshire. He says though there has been an understandable drop in figures, there are signs improvements are on the way thanks to the move to electric. Speaking of the latest figures, he said: "This dip in sales volumes is disappointing for JLR but somewhat explainable by the production constraints due to the fire at the supplier in April, but it is also interesting that they admit the Middle East conflict has also disrupted sales. And of course they no longer have Jaguar sales to prop up the numbers. "Sales were down in all regions apart from North America which was flat, and China was down a whopping 26. 2% as customers there pivot to Chinese built electric cars. It’s amazing to see how high the sales mix is now for the Range Rover and Defender sales at 80. 8% and when the new medium sized cars such as Range Rover Evoque, Velar, and Discovery Sport are launched off the new EMA (Electric Modular Architecture) this should bolster future sales growth.
