President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday defended the government’s response to the impact of the Middle East crisis on Filipinos, saying they acted swiftly through measures to help affected sectors. He made the remarks in his fifth State of the Nation Address, delivered amid the state of national energy emergency still in place. ”He assured that the government will tap funds recovered from corruption cases and use these for programs that will benefit Filipinos in need amid the crisis. He said government assistance will prioritize 3. 5 million beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and Walang Gutom Program, 1. 5 million minimum wage earners under the Social Security System, and 2. 5 million poor Filipinos who have not yet received aid. Similarly, assistance will still be extended for the transport and agriculture sectors, and overseas Filipino workers, he added.
