Ohmium and Hynfra Partner to Advance Green Hydrogen Projects Across Middle East and Africa - H2 Bulletin

Ohmium International and Hynfra have signed a master cooperation agreement to support the development of large-scale green hydrogen projects in Mauritania, Jordan and Oman, strengthening efforts to expand clean energy production across the Middle East and Africa. The agreement covers the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) phase of the projects and establishes a framework for continued collaboration between the two companies. Under the arrangement, Ohmium will provide technical support and expertise in Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser technology throughout the FEED and broader project development stages. The planned facilities are intended to produce green hydrogen for use in green ammonia production. The companies said the projects aim to enhance energy security and long-term resilience in the host countries by creating domestically sourced clean energy capacity, reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels and supporting economic diversification. The projects are also expected to supply Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO)-compliant green ammonia for export markets, including Europe. Dr Markus Tacke, Chief Executive Officer of Ohmium International, described the agreement as an important milestone in the company’s expansion into the Middle East and Africa. He said the partnership would help advance large-scale green hydrogen and green ammonia production while supporting growing global demand for clean energy solutions. The Middle East and Africa are increasingly viewed as key regions for green hydrogen development due to their abundant renewable energy resources and strategic proximity to major international markets. Countries such as Mauritania, Jordan and Oman are seeking to leverage these advantages to build new clean energy industries, improve energy independence and reduce exposure to fluctuations in global fossil fuel markets. Ohmium’s modular PEM electrolyser technology is designed to support rapid project deployment and provide flexibility in scaling production capacity as demand grows. The company believes these characteristics make the technology well suited to large-scale hydrogen developments in emerging markets. Hynfra, a developer of green hydrogen and green ammonia projects, said it follows a multi-supplier strategy for critical technologies to ensure project resilience and competitiveness. Tomoho Umeda, Chief Executive Officer of Hynfra, said the company works with multiple technology providers across its portfolio and maintains at least two qualified suppliers in each technology category, reflecting the complexity and scale of its planned developments. The companies said the agreement highlights growing international momentum behind green hydrogen as a central component of the global energy transition. By combiningOhmium’s electrolyser technology with Hynfra’s project development capabilities and regional partnerships, the two firms aim to accelerate the delivery of large-scale green hydrogen and green ammonia projects that support energy security and low-carbon economic growth across the Middle East and North Africa region.
