Sheraa’s AED5 Million Fund Supports More Than 60 SMEs Across Sharjah - Business Today Middle East

The ability to navigate uncertainty has become one of the defining characteristics of successful entrepreneurship. As global markets face shifting economic conditions, changing consumer behaviour, tighter funding environments, and rising operational costs, startups are increasingly required to remain agile while continuing to grow. Across the UAE, entrepreneurs are responding to these challenges by building innovative businesses in sectors including healthcare, food technology, sustainability, accessibility, consumer products, and digital innovation. Recognising the importance of supporting businesses during periods of uncertainty, theSharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa) established theEntrepreneurs Resilience Fund (ERF). The initiative is designed to provide timely assistance to Sharjah-based startups and SMEs facing operational and market pressures. Backed by public- and private-sector partners, the fund is mobilising up toAED5 millionthrough a combination of equity-free grants, tailored business programmes, accelerated funding decisions, and strategic advisory services aimed at strengthening business resilience. The initiative attracted strong interest during its first funding cycle, receiving more than330 applicationsfrom startups and SMEs across the UAE. Following a comprehensive evaluation process, over60 businesseswere selected to receive either financial grants or in-kind support. The launch of the ERF reflects the UAE’s broader commitment to strengthening entrepreneurship and innovation. The country was ranked the world’s leading entrepreneurship ecosystem for the fifth consecutive year in theGlobal Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) 2025/2026report, while theIMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2026placed the UAE first globally for Economic Performance and second for Creation of Firms. These achievements support the UAE’s national economic strategy, which aims to increase the number of active companies from 1. 2 million to more than 2 million by 2031 and generate 30,000 entrepreneurship-driven jobs by 2030. Sheraa has played a significant role in advancing these ambitions within Sharjah. Since its establishment, the organisation has supported more than600 startups, helping entrepreneurs raise overAED1. 14 billionin funding while contributing to the emirate’s growing innovation ecosystem. Sara Abdulaziz Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of Sheraa, said the Entrepreneurs Resilience Fund was created to ensure promising businesses facing temporary challenges do not have to sacrifice long-term growth to address immediate operational needs. She noted that supporting entrepreneurs also strengthens Sharjah’s economic diversification, innovation capacity, and long-term competitiveness. The fund reflects a collaborative approach to entrepreneurship development, bringing together public and private sector partners to provide founders with the financial resources and strategic support needed to navigate uncertain market conditions. Beyond financial assistance, the ERF offers participating businesses personalised mentorship, strategic guidance, and access to industry networks and market opportunities. This comprehensive support is intended to improve operational readiness, strengthen decision-making, and position startups for sustainable long-term growth. The initiative also represents a broader evolution in entrepreneurial support programmes by recognising that building successful businesses requires more than helping companies launch. Long-term economic impact depends on enabling founders to adapt, overcome challenges, and continue growing throughout changing market conditions. Many of the startups selected through the Entrepreneurs Resilience Fund are developing practical solutions to real-world challenges. Their innovations span areas such as reducing food waste, improving childhood nutrition, expanding accessibility through artificial intelligence, advancing wellness products using locally sourced ingredients, and creating more sustainable consumer solutions.
