U. S. launches eighth straight night of strikes on Iran as 50,000 troops stay on high alert across Middle East
U. S> Central Command says American forces have completed an eighth consecutive night of strikes on Iranian targets, as more than 50,000 U. S. personnel remain on heightened vigilance in the region amid reports of blasts in southern Iran and retaliatory attacks claimed by Tehran.

19th July 2026 – (Washington) U. S. Central Command said U. S. forces had completed another round of attacks on Iran, marking an eighth consecutive night of operations aimed at degrading Iranian military capabilities. According to the command, the latest wave hit coastal surveillance and air defence facilities, maritime assets, and sites used to store missiles and drones. CENTCOM added that American forces also struck Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps units it says were involved in attacks on U. S. service members in Jordan on 17th July. The command stated that more than 50,000 U. S. personnel remain deployed across the Middle East and “highly vigilant”. Reports from Iranian media and local officials described explosions in several southern locations, including Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Hajiabad and Shadegan. Authorities in Hormozgan Province confirmed strikes on Qeshm, near the Strait of Hormuz, with Iranian outlets reporting multiple blasts. Separate footage from Kuwait showed thick plumes of smoke over Mangaf after what Kuwaiti officials said were Iranian strikes on a power generation and water desalination facility, prompting calls for residents to conserve electricity and water. Tehran has claimed retaliatory action. Iran’s military said it conducted large‑scale drone attacks on what it described as an ammunition depot at Camp al‑Adiri and air‑defence radars at Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. Iran’s embassy in India alleged that a US strike on a bridge in Bandar Khamir on Thursday killed seven civilians, including two girls. A senior Iranian commander, Ali Abdullahi, warned that any further US “aggression or barbarism” would draw a decisive response from Iran’s armed forces. On the regional economic front, Iraq said it is studying a strategic pipeline plan linking Basra to Kirkuk and onward to Türkiye’s Ceyhan port, with a potential spur to Syria’s Banias, in a bid to lessen reliance on the Strait of Hormuz. On the ground, correspondents in Tehran characterised the latest US bombardment as another night of escalation but less intense than recent strikes, while noting blasts reported across multiple cities in Hormozgan. CENTCOM’s statement also referenced the attack on US forces in Jordan on 17th July, in which at least two American service members were killed and another remains missing, as tensions continue to rise. The sustained exchange of strikes underscores the risk of broader spillover, even as both sides calibrate their operations across a region already on edge.
